I am about to unleash my inner goddess Greece. How fitting that it is the home of Athena, Aphrodite and Hera!
A few months ago, somewhat on a whim, I booked a yoga teacher training with master yogini Shiva Rea. I stumbled upon her website after “wasting time” on the Internet one evening in February. On the website, Shiva had just announced a June yoga retreat and teacher training in Santorini. I was captivated by the images of yogis doing asana and pranayama amidst the white-washed buildings of Santorini’s dramatic caldera. I could see myself there. I wanted to be there. And within a few days, I was booked.
It’s funny how those seemingly trivial moments in front of the computer can transform into … well, me getting ready to fly to Greece for a yoga teacher training with Shiva Rea.
I’ve never taken any classes with Shiva, never done any of her videos, never read anything by her. I am a Shiva Rea “virgin,” which makes this even more exciting. I purposely avoided buying any tapes or DVDs or books by her so that I could go into this program 100-percent raw. One of my beloved teachers, Nianna Bray, is a student on Shiva’s — and that’s enough for me to know that I’ll enjoy her style.
And if by chance I hate it, at least I’ll be in a beautiful location that I’ve never traveled before.
